Registries — Wishlists, Wedding & Baby Gift Pages

Build a public wishlist or gift registry on Gift List: pick a theme, add items, share one clean link, and let friends and family see what you'd love.

What is a Registry?

A registry is a shareable page that lists things you'd love to receive — wedding gifts, baby-shower items, birthday picks, housewarming essentials, or just a personal wishlist. Each registry lives at its own short URL (/your-slug), looks polished out of the box, and works on any device without anyone needing to sign up to view it.

  • Theme-styled pages — choose from elegant, festive, minimal, baby-themed and more.
  • Flexible privacy — public, unlisted, password-protected, invite-only, or fully private.
  • Items from anywhere — add product links from any store, with title, price, and notes.
  • Reservation & purchase tracking — guests can mark items reserved or purchased so two people don't show up with the same gift.
  • Cash funds & group gifts — collect money toward a honeymoon, baby fund, or one big group gift via secure Stripe checkout. Learn more.
  • Wizard or manual — let the wizard pick smart defaults, or build it yourself field-by-field.

Two Ways to Create a Registry

Five short steps. Pick an occasion (Wedding, Baby Shower, It's a Boy/Girl, Birthday, Anniversary, Housewarming, Holiday, or Custom) and we suggest a matching title and theme. Add a date if you want, choose visibility, review, and you're done.

Manual Form

Prefer to fill in everything yourself? The classic form gives you direct access to every field — title, slug, event date, description, theme, visibility — on one screen.

Use the manual form

Both flows save to the same place — you can edit any registry from My Registries regardless of how you created it.

Choosing a Theme

Each registry has a visual style that controls fonts, colors, card layout, and accents on the public page. Use the scrollable theme picker to preview each one live before saving — what you see in the picker is what visitors will see at /your-slug.

You can change the theme any time from the registry's Edit dialog — it doesn't affect your items or the public URL.

Adding Items

Once a registry exists, open it from My RegistriesManage Items. There are two easy ways to add gifts:

Use the browser extension (fastest). Install the free Gift List extension for Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. When you find something you love on any store, click the toolbar button and it grabs the title, price, and image automatically and saves it to the registry you choose — no copy-pasting.

Paste a product URL. Prefer to add things by hand? Provide a title, the link to the product page, optionally a price, image URL, and notes. Visitors see a clickable card that opens the store in a new tab — they buy from the retailer you picked, and can mark the item as reserved or purchased so nobody duplicates.

Items can be reordered, edited, or removed at any time. There's no hard cap on item count, but for the best browsing experience we suggest keeping a single registry under ~50 items.

Sharing Your Registry

Every registry has a public URL based on its slug:

https://giftlist.ca/your-slug
  • Public registries — visible to anyone with the link, and may appear in search engines if you let crawlers index it.
  • Private registries — the page returns "not found" unless visited via the exact link. Send the URL by message, email, or invite — anyone without the link can't see it.
  • Slugs are editable — change the slug from the Edit dialog. The old URL stops working immediately, so update anywhere you've shared it.
  • QR codes — pair the registry URL with our QR code generator to put it on a save-the-date or shower invite.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Set an event date so visitors see how much time they have.
  • Write a short welcome message in the description — it appears at the top of the public page.
  • Mix price ranges so guests with different budgets always have an option.
  • Add an image URL where possible — image cards convert visitors much better than text-only ones.
  • Keep the slug short and easy to spell out loud (e.g. /jamie-and-sam).
  • Preview from a phone before sharing — most guests will open the page on mobile.
