Frequently asked questions

Is Gift List really free?
Yes. Creating registries, adding items, sharing them, and tracking purchases are all free forever. There is no premium tier.
How do guests buy gifts?
Each item links straight to the store you picked. Your guests click through, buy from the retailer, then come back and mark the item as reserved or purchased so other guests don't duplicate it.
Do guests need to sign up?
No. Anyone with the registry link can view items and mark them as reserved/purchased without an account.
Can I keep my registry private?
Yes. You can mark any registry as private — only people with the direct link can see it. Public registries are also accessible from your profile.
Can I see which guests reserved what?
You can choose to hide purchase details from yourself so the surprise is preserved, while still preventing duplicates between guests.
How many registries can I create?
As many as you'd like. There's no cap on registries or items.
Can I add items from any online store?
Yes. Paste a product URL from any retailer and we'll try to auto-fill the title, image and price. You can also fill the details in manually.
How do I share my registry?
Every registry has a short URL like giftlist.ca/r/your-slug. Send it via text, email, a wedding website, or print it on an invitation.
Does Gift List help me track thank-you notes?
Yes — every gift in your inbox gets a thank-you status. Click Write thank-you and you can:
  • Send the note straight from Gift List (rate-limited so it stays a thank-you tool, not a marketing channel)
  • Open it in your own email app (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail…) — we'll mark it as sent
  • Mark it as "Sent offline" if you wrote it by hand
  • Save a draft to come back to
You can also add gifts you received outside the registry (Grandma's hand-knit blanket, the cheque from Uncle Frank) so they show up in the same tracker and don't fall through the cracks.
What about duplicate gifts, wrong sizes, or returns?
When guests mark an item as purchased they can optionally drop in the order number, store, purchase date, and a link to the receipt. Your gift inbox shows everything in one place with a return-window countdown (Costco 90 days, IKEA a year, Amazon 30 days, etc.) so you know exactly how long you have to handle a return or exchange. You can mark each gift as kept, duplicate, wrong size, returned, or exchanged and add notes for yourself.
